'Channel 3' pulls in high ratings during rout of St. Joseph

St. Joseph quarterback Kai Money may get lots of press close to the border, but here in the Metroplex, a bigger name is starting to spread like wildfire – Jarek Broussard.

If you were tuned into "Channel 3," you witnessed the junior torch St. Joseph on Saturday, piling up 402 all-purpose yards and scoring six total touchdowns as the Friars (7-5) stormed into the TAPPS Division 1 Final Four with a 62-28 rout of the Bloodhounds (9-3).

Broussard caught three touchdown passes, rushed for two more and made the Bloodhounds pay for kicking the ball his way, taking a return 89 yards to paydirt. Broussard had 172 yards receiving, returned three kicks for 146 yards and ran for another 84 on just seven carries.

The offense totaled 477 yards on the day with senior Jermaine Mask rushing for 148 yards, including a 66-yard romp on the opening series of the ballgame. Junior quarterback Jagger LaRoe set career bests in passing yards (193) and touchdown passes (3).

Money did all he could for St. Joseph, but was harassed all day by a defense that continuously hurried out of the pocket (Warren Walls had a sack) and forced him to throw bad passes. Davis Peck, Keion McGee and Jeremy Irving each had an interception.

Peck returned his 18 yards for a touchdown, McGee took his back 65 yards to set up a Friar score and Irving's pick sealed the deal in the fourth period.

The Friars have won three straight heading into this weekend's rematch with Prestonwood Christian for a spot in the state championship game on Dec. 3.

Bishop Lynch and Prestonwood will meet Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mesquite's Memorial Stadium. Tickets are $10 at the gate and no presale tickets are available.
