PLANO – The Lady Friars blew open a close game with a huge sixth inning Monday to capture their first district win of the season.

Leading 4-0 after five innings, Bishop Lynch (5-6 overall, 1-1 district) put up 12 runs in the sixth to enforce the run-rule for a 16-0 win over John Paul II.

Kristen Linares got the win in the pitcher's circle, tossing five shutout innings with four strikeouts and just five hits allowed. Abby Thrash threw one inning in relief to finish the game.

Linares also scored three runs, stole four bases and drove in two runs while hitting into three fielder's choices. Thrash doubled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

The Lady Friars scored a run in the third inning to break a scoreless tie, added two more in the fourth and another in the fifth.

Gabi Quintanilla, Megan Metry and KyLeigh Freeman also had big days at the plate for the Lady Friars.

Quintanilla went 2-for-4, scoring two runs, driving in three and stealing a pair of bases. Metry was 2-for-3 with three runs driven in and a run scored. Freeman was 2-for-2 with an RBI, stolen base and three runs scored.

The Lady Friars head to San Marcos to open play in the 2017 Rattler Spring Break Classic from Thursday through Saturday. Bishop Lynch opens the tournament with games against Weimar, Navarro and Akins at 11:20 am, 1:30 pm and 2:35 pm, respectively.

District play resumes March 20 when the Lady Friars head to Bishop Dunne.
