Freshman Hudspeth leads Lady Friars past Greenhill, Parish

Freshman Lindsey Hudspeth won two events with personal best times Wednesday in leading the Lady Friars to duel wins over Greenhill and Parish Episcopal.

The BL AquaFriars visited Greenhill on Wednesday for their final competition of the calendar year, taking on Greenhill and Parish Episcopal.

The Lady Friars scored their 8th and 9th victories in dual meets against only one loss, defeating Greenhill 49-44 and Parish 51-40. The Lady Friars were led by freshman Lindsay Hudspeth, who scored victories in the 500-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke, both in personal best times. Hudspeth received support from:

• Fellow freshman Elli Jordan, who finished 2nd in the 200-yard individual medley and 3rd in the 100-yard butterfly;

• Senior captain Jesseca Hageman, who finished 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke and 3rd in the 100-yard freestyle;

• Senior captain Bonnie Nolan, who finished 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle and 3rd in the 100-yard breaststroke; and

• Freshman Annie Zajicek, who finished 3rd in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events.

Nolan, Hageman, Hudspeth and sophomore Kate Hickerson teamed to finish 2nd in the 200-yard medley relay, with Zajicek and Hickerson joining junior Allison Lawrence and freshman Kate Springs to finish 3rd in the 400-yard freestyle relay. 

The most stirring event of the night occurred in the 200-yard freestyle relay, where the senior/junior team of Nolan, Hageman, Lawrence and junior Ella Price defeated the BL freshman girls by .03 seconds.

The men's team had a good evening, defeating Parish 64-26 and narrowly losing to Greenhill 48-46. The Friar men were led by junior George Smith, who won the 200-yard individual medley and finished 2nd in the 100-yard backstroke, and by senior Will Eckles, who won the 50-yard freestyle and finished 2nd in the 100-yard freestyle. 

The boys also got good performances from freshman Preston Pierce, who finished 2nd in the 50-yard freestyle, and senior Will Seidel, who finished 2nd in the 100-yard butterfly.

Eckles, George Smith and Pierce teamed with senior Sean O'Hare to finish 2nd in the 200-yard medley relay, while Eckles, George Smith and Pierce combined with sophomore Shaughnessey Smith to win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Pierce and Shaughnessey Smith joined with junior Killian Baker and senior Eric Bray to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The AquaFriars will close out their regular season on Jan. 5 with a meet against St. Mark's and Hockaday at St. Mark's. The competition begins at 6 p.m.
