A setback in their most recent outing shouldn't stop the head of steam built by the varsity boys basketball team, now 22-4 this season.
The Friars – ranked No. 2 in the TABC 6A Private School pool – fell to fourth-ranked St. Mark's on Tuesday by a 74-61 margin. Bishop Lynch shot well from the field, including 10-of-22 from long range, but made just two trips to the free throw line, making 3-of-4. Imo Essien led the team with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The loss comes after a pair of wins over ranked private schools, each on the road against Tyler All Saints (74-45) and Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill (75-63). They also finished second during the break at the FWISD Classic, beating iSchool Academy (78-38), Fossil Ridge (81-52), and Plano West (66-52), before falling in the championship game to El Paso Burges, 64-62, in a double-overtime game.
The Friars host Liberty Christian on Friday for their final non-district contest. District play begins Tuesday at home against John Paul II. All remaining regular season games are scheduled for a 7:30 pm tipoff.
